Spotted For Sale: 1947 Round Engine Fieseler Storch Project!

French made Fieseler Storch with 245 hp Jacobs engine for sale at barnstormers.com

I saw Kermit Weeks fly the Fieseler Storch at the Fantasy of Flight Museum last year during Sun-n-Fun and was really impressed by how it looked like a lot of fun to fly. It's big, weird, kinda ugly, and a taildragger... those are just the kind of things that make me pretty happy with a flying machine! If you don't know, I used to fly a Polish built PZL-104 Wilga 80 back in the late 1980's (and loved it) so you know I'm not very normal : /

This here Fieseler Storch isn't German built like we typically think of them, instead it's one of the ones built by Morane-Saulnier in France after the War. Instead of the inverted V-8 Argus engine of 240 hp that is also typical of the type, this one has a Jacobs R-755-9 radial that makes 245 hp. I know some of the French Storchs had radials, but I don't know if the Jacobs was what they were putting on them, but regardless, that's the engine on this one. One thing for sure... it must sound purrfect. If I had money and time, I'd be all over this project.

So, if you're looking for an unusual airplane that needs restoration, and one of your goals is to turn heads at any and every airport you stop at, this Fieseler Storch might be just the ticket. Click either of the pictures to click thru to the listing. And if you buy it, please let me know when it's done because I really wanna go for a ride!

This 1947 Fieseler Storch project is not your run-of-the-mill ride!

Thank you for posting this, a greatly under appreciated and undervalued airplane. The Morane Saulnieur factory in France did in fact produced the MS-505 with the Jacobs, repacing the previous Salmson engined version (MS-502) - the last of the series was a Lyco powered test model the MS-506. The French used them into the late 50's in Algeria an French Indochina (Vietnam) they had the nickname "criquet" as in cricket due to their long landing gear and fantastic stol capabilities- The original German design Fieseler Fi-156 was/is commonly known as "Storch" (as in Stork) for the same reasons above but on the bird side of things. I'm currently rebuilding a 1941 Fi-156 with the original Argus AS10C3 engine.

oscar azecedo- Thanx for the additional info, especially on the Jacobs engine usage. Sounds like you've got a fascinating project in the works! I wish you well on it - send some pictures one day when you get it done : )

Hi from England!

For those interested in the Storch, here is a short video of my aircraft.

http://www.looptv.aero/LTVCategory31/2486/THESTORCH%E2%80%93%C2%A0PETEHOLLOWAY.aspx

It is a big machine, some 46ft wingspan, and thus not to be taken lightly as a rebuild project.

There is a nucleus of Storch nuts around the world including my good friend Oscar, above. Help and advice is therefore readily available.

Conversion parts to rebuild the aircraft to Luftwaffe specification can be found but are becoming more difficult these days.

I reckon it would take a competent, multi-skilled engineer 10 years to create a masterpiece similar to mine. The result will be a spectacular piece of history that will drop jaws wherever it arrives.

Good luck!

I'll post some You Tube links of some in-cockpit footage shortly.

Hi, was that your Storch flying near Kettering, Northants @~15.00 today (12/08/2012)?

I heard a radial, then saw the Storch above my house. I recognised the airframe from my RAF days, when there was one at St. Athan, I think.

Looked nice in the sun against a blue sky!
