You can't argue that twitter follower @MontanaOne has proven to be pretty sharp with captions for crazy aircraft pix... and she's done it again! Another great caption snags another $20 AirPigz funny money : )
And no, it's not a photoshop, this twin Tri-Pacer is for real! Learn a little about Harold Wagner's 'twin' experiments at a unique page over at TwinNavion.com.
It's really amazing to see the things that people have done over the years with aircraft design. Some are truly inspired while others have to leave you scratching your head. The one thing you can be sure of tho is that there will never be a shortage of people with bizzare ideas!
More Caption Contest fun will be coming at ya soon, don't miss it.
As this video shows, construction of my updated, modified Volksplane that I call 'Project VP' has begun! I have the pretty crazy goal of actually getting it all built in time for Oshkosh 2009 which begins July 27th. The idea is that having the super-cool AirPigz graphics on the airplane will generate a huge amount of promo for AirPigz.com during the greatest aviation event in the world: Oshkosh.
I honestly don't know if I can get it done in time, but the one thing I know for sure... I can't get it done without your help. That's why I'm selling ‘Project VP supporter' t-shirts. More info at the end of this post about how to get one ordered.
Between a back injury with surgery four years ago (without insurance) and a wide variety of extremely frustrating financial setbacks in the last year, I've been pretty much crushed from a money standpoint. I started AirPigz with the hope that I'd eventually be able to get away from the back-stressing physical workload of the housing industry work that I do. So, some huge promo for AirPigz at Oshkosh gives me a real shot at attracting the kind of attention and traffic that is needed for this site to become profitable on some level.
I'm also really interested in encouraging people to have a better understanding of some of the options that are out there to be able to get into the air affordably. We've got to find ways to spark growth in the world of aviation or we run the risk of being legislated out of the sky. The very public nature of PVP, thru the live shopcam I've set up as well as the video updates and posts here at AirPigz are designed to show people a little more about what it takes to build a simple and affordable airplane.
I hope you see the unique value of supporting this project. You can better understand the overall project, as well as see the basic format that the t-shirt will be in by checking out the "Project VP Needs Your Help" post. The t-shirt design isn't quite finished yet, but if I stand any chance of making the goal, I need to get some shirts sold asap.
To order up a top quality 6-ink Project VP 'sponsor' t-shirt for $50, which will be delivered in July, please send me an email at mcc@airpigz.com and I'll respond with the details on how to order. Payment can be made with check, money order, or PayPal. And thanx for your support and encouragement!
To continue the theme of the last few posts, I've become a bit of a 'space cadet' and totally forgot that I was supposed to put up the Caption Contest yesterday!
Oh well, 'better late than never' is pretty much how I live... so here's your new crazy pic. We'll just move everything back a day as we look for some clever captions to come thru from you all. And, the winner flies away with $20 AirPigz funny money too!

STS-125, the Atlantis shuttle mission to repair and extend the life of the Hubble Space telescope returned with a perfect landing at Edwards AFB on Sunday May 24, 2009. Thunderstorms prevented a Florida landing.
This extremely successful expedition covered 13 days and almost 5.3 million miles thru space.
This super HD video is absolutely amazing to watch, especially if you have a large monitor and super fast broadband. The velocity with which the mostly steam clouds are propelled horizontally is incredible!
I highly recommend you watch the ignition to lift-off segment over and over and over and over...
Hey hey, another twitter follower, @Falcon 124, has put on a great show, snagging the most votes for the very creative dolphin caption above. Great job... I'm likes it!
BTW, this is a nifty International win as he's from Melbourne, Australia. Hmm, now that I notice, the pic above kinda looks like Australia (well, I guess they do have some houses and some other buildings over there too). Just kidding! I've never been there, but I've looked into it a bit and I could even consider living there.
Anyway, sorry for the delay getting the winner posted. The mainframe computer at the AirPigz World Headquarters decided to tumble it's gyros this morning and spent about 7 fascinating hours in a locked up loop of 'ain't nothing happenin'.
But hey, that's ancient history now and things are back to normal (ha, right!). Thanx again to everyone for playing the game. I think it's as much fun for me as it is for you guys. And we'll do it all over again starting this next Monday (Memorial Day).
Here's a 10 minute video test I put together night before last on Project VP. It's not real fancy but I'm pleased with how the relatively small shop looks on camera and for how I presented the info. This is kinda new for me but I can tell already that I'm really gonna like explaining the process behind building a wood aircraft in a really short period of time!
If you don't know already, the goal is to actually get the project completed in time for Oshkosh 2009. It's a bit crazy I know, but then that's me!
More info coming real soon on how you can get behind this unique project and be a supporter. The bottom line is, without help form you guys, this very public airplane build simply wouldn't be possible.
WhiteKnightTwo: wheels up and looking good! Photo: VirginGalactic
Virgin Galactic's WhiteKnightTwo, built by Scaled Composites, is well into the flight test phase now and is looking pretty sweet in the air. This video really helps to get a feel for how graceful the airplane is in flight.
Given the very unique nature of both the design of the airplane, and the intended task of being an airborne launch vehicle for a manned spacecraft, the testing at this point is going extremely well.
You may have heard that test flight 4 had an interesting minor strike of the rudders on the runway. It appears that it wasn't really a big deal, and they are fully aware of what caused the situation, and how to prevent it from happening again. Here's the official Scaled Composites statement with details about the incident.
Flight testing of new aircraft designs is always (as in ALWAYS!) full of unique challenges that lead to updated design. With WK2, you'd expect nothing different. The free flow of info today tho, tends to give us a look at details we would have rarely known about in the past.
Here's an interesting look at the way the info about the issue surfaced from Alan Radecki at the Mojave Skies Blog (WK2 and the media). He's got a great perspective on it all, and his blog always has tons of cool Mojave happenings to check out.
I've found in my life that the more I try to accomplish things are difficult and challenging, the more I respect the people who make things happen. They also become a tremendous source of encouragement as well. Thank you!
OK, I'm not sure you guys can make this pic work well for a cool caption, but we're gonna give it a try. Seems like there's just gotta be something creative that can be done with it!
You've got til Tuesday evening to submit a wild and wacky caption (or three), then I'll pick the five best ones and we'll vote for a winner.
And, as is our custom of late, the winner will get in on the wonderful world of AirPigz funny money ($20).
The Rules:
1) Max of 3 submissions per person
2) Submissions go in 'comments'
3) Game ends Tuesday at 9pm EDT
4) Keep it clean!
Then, Anyone who wants to cast their vote will be able to after the poll goes up around an hour after the 9pm Tuesday submission deadline.
Usually when you think of the world's greatest pilot, you're thinking about some superhuman guy who has done amazing things over a lot of years with fantastic aircraft. You probably aren't thinking about a girl in her mid-twenties flying an Ercoupe... but it's never too late to get it right.
Jessica Cox was born without arms, but that hasn't stopped her from doing more than most "normal" people. She drives a car, does martial arts, and now, she's the first person ever licensed to fly without arms. She's an amazing woman, and I think she just might be the world's greatest pilot!
